Bari is the capital of the region of Puglia and the province of Bari on the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Italy. Bari is well known as a port city with a ferry connection with Greece and Albania, besides being a university town. Bari is the second most important economic centers on the Mainland in southern Italy after Naples. Bari is divided into nine administrative divisions.
To the North is the densely populated old city on the peninsula between the two modern harbours with the magnificent Church of the Basilica di San Nicola, an important place of pilgrimage for both the Italians and the other, the Cathedral of San Sabino and the Castello Svevo of Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor, who now also is a significant area for evening and night life. To the South lies the Murattiano section, the modern heart of the city, which is laid out on a rectangular plan with a sea walks and with a significant shopping precinct. Bari cuisine that is one of Italy's most traditional, is based on three typical agricultural products found in the Puglia region, wheat, olive oil and wine. Fiera del Levante is the largest trade fair of the Adriatic and involves exhibits from many sectors and industries that attract many exhibitors from Italy and the area around the Mediterranean Sea. Sights in Bari is among other things, Basilica of Saint Nicholas, Bari Cathedral, the Petruzzelli Theatre is one of the grandest opera houses in Italy, The Norman-Hohenstaufen Castle, also known as the Castello Svevo, The Pinacoteca Provinciale di Bari which is the most important painting Museum in Puglia, the Russian church, the Barivecchia, or old Bari is a wide Street which is located north of modern Murat area. Other attractions: Teatro Margherita, the Teatro Piccinni, Orto Botanico Dell ' Università di Bari a botanical garden, built the Acquedotto Pugliese, the medieval church of San Marco dei Veneziani, the Baroque church of Santa Teresa dei Maschi and Pane e Pomodoro beach is the largest beach close to the city. |
